Text while drinking with smoke glasses

Apparently, in the olden days, when people had cocktail parties and it was acceptable to smoke like a chimney while standing around in someone else's livingroom, someone had the bright idea to design glasses that would allow you to smoke and drink with the same hand (what the other hand was supposed to be doing, I don't know). These retro glasses - Joe Colombo's Smoke Glasses (1963) - are available at Design Within Reach for $198 (for a pair).

They're now touted for their ergonomic design and quirky retro appeal, but I have another idea. Why not repurpose this great design and call them "Texting Glasses" so you can text on your cell phone while drinking and ignoring the person you're supposed to be chatting with. Now, I haven't actually tried this, so I disclaim any responsibility if you try it and fail, making a mess of your friend's antique Persian rug. Texting while supposedly socializing may be rude, but it's a fact of life, isn't it? It makes sense . . . if you ignore the consequence that once people figure out what these are, they'll know not to approach you for conversation and you'll be standing there all by your lonesome with nothing but your sorry drink and your iPhone for company.
