iTunes reports that "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time"

Symptom



If iTunes displays one of the following messages when you connect iPod nano (3rd generation) or iPod classic, proceed to the Solution section:



  • iTunes for Windows





  • iTunes for Mac

Solution




In some cases, your iPod may simply need to be reset. Follow the steps below to reset your iPod:



  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, and then turn it off again).

  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons simultaneously
